Suzan Shown Harjo (Cheyenne & Hodulgee Muscogee) is a writer, curator, policy advocate and president of The Morning Star Institute, a national Native rights organization in Washington, DC—as well as an advisor for the Penn Museum's upcoming exhibition, Native American Voices: The People, Here and Now. She has helped Native Peoples protect sacred places and recover more than one million acres of land, and has developed key laws in five decades to promote and protect Native nations, sovereignty, children, arts, cultures, languages, and religious freedom. She has led the campaign to end the name of the Washington football franchise since 1992, and will speak at the Museum on on "Mascots, Tokens and Targets: Ending "Native" Stereotypes and False Personalities in Sports."
