Francisco X. Alarcón is an award-winning poet who grew up in two countries: he spent time as a child in both Mexico and the United States. Songs he heard from his indigenous grandmother first inspired Alarcón's poetry, which he presents for readers in both English and in Spanish. In this exclusive video interview with ¡Colorín Colorado! Francisco Alarcón speaks about his Hispanic heritage and how it makes him a "a bi-national, bicultural, bilingual poet." For more interviews with Hispanic authors, visit us at www.ColorinColorado.org. Colorin Colorado is a project of Reading Rockets, a national educational service of PBS station WETA. Major support is provided by the American Federation of Teachers. Additional support comes from the National Institute for Literacy and the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. A Spanish-language interview with Francisco Alarcón is also available.
