Taped: 04/20/2007. Co-founder and Artistic Director of Second Stage Theatre, Carole Rothman remembers some of her favorite productions, including Cheryl West's Jar the Floor, Charles Fuller's A Soldier's Play, and the New York premiere of Stephen Sondheim's early musical Saturday Night. She comments as well on the transfer to Broadway of such original Second Stage productions as The Little Dog Laughed and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The acclaimed television series 'Women in Theatre' provides a unique look into the lives of some of the gifted women who create and sustain theatre in the United States -- with major directors, designers, actors, lyricists, composers and producers -- conducted by Linda Winer, theatre critic for Newsday. The series' theme song is "The Glamorous Life" from 'A Little Night Music' by Stephen Sondheim, performed by Alex Rybeck, noted pianist and music director.
