American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World

Maya Jasanoff is Coolidge Professor of History at Harvard University. She specializes in the history of the British Empire. In her first book, Edge of Empire: Lives, Culture, and Conquest in the East 1750-1850 (2005), she explores the cultural interaction between Britain, Egypt, and India during the rapid expansion of the British Empire in the Middle East and Asia. In her second book, Liberty's Exiles: American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World (2011), which provides the theme for her Clark Lecture, she explores the experience of the Loyalists who left the United States during and after the upheaval of the American Revolution.
